Book Review: Off To Be The Wizard

Home

I picked up this book thanks to GoodReads newsletter. I am a fan for life of Scott Meyer and will read everything he puts out. Off To Be The Wizard follows Martin, a normal guy who learns that life is just a computer program. Being something of a coder and hacker, Martin makes a few tweaks to his life and finds they have not escaped the notice of the goverment.

To get away from the trouble and lay low while he figures everything out, he travels back in time to pose as a wizard in the Middle Ages. That goes far differently than you could ever imagine.

Totally irreverent, filled with geeky humor and philosophical thoughts about life and the meaning therein. Few books make me laugh out loud this hard. No, really, I can count them all on one hand.

I've also read the second book, Spell or High Water and it is a bit of mystery and romance, dealing mostly with the idea of fate and destiny. Through and through hilarious. I can't wait to read the other two.

If you like Red Dwarf, these books are right up your alley. This isn't a young kids book, but it is safe for teens up.
