I've read 97 books this year (as of Dec 22nd)! I wanted to take a moment to highlight my top five clean indie novellas and short stories before going into my top ten clean indie novels of the whole year. I love this time of year when everyone is home for the holidays, planning their holiday reading list and telling everyone the best books they read in the past year.
I'd say between Summer reading challenges and Winter Top Ten lists, my To-Be-Read list is expanding exponentially.
Without further ado, here are my top five clean indie novellas and short stories of the year:
A Fairy King by C. J. Brightley
A lovely romance novella set during the holidays. I loved the concept of receiving letters from a fairy prince.
The Fox & The Train by Alice Gent
A thought provoking fantasy adventure starring determined children striking out to save their family in a coal mining town near the frontlines of a war.
Black Skies by Casey White
Sitting at the helm of a ship filled with translators and diplomats and researchers, Alin’s task is clear: Return to the world, and welcome them to interstellar society. It’s an imposing duty, yes, but simple enough.
So he thought - until they reach their destination, and find their mission turned on its head. What a wonderful heartbreaking tale. I would love to know what happens after this!
Fast Train To The Grave by C. A. W. Parker
Rusty Macduff is a private eye with a niche: he only takes on the cases every other detective in the golden age of crime turns down. I absolutely loved this mystery story! I can't wait to read the rest of the series. So many great lines!
The Wrong Proposal by Stella Dorthwany
Rahbi Cairnah has made a career out of asking women to marry him—when he’s sure they’ll say no. It’s a creative way of resisting his father’s pressure to marry. But when he proposes to his mother’s dowdy, man-hating secretary Miska, his career comes to a screeching halt. Because she says yes. Now Rahbi’s got to convince Miska to release him—before his father finds out and ensures Rahbi’s carefree bachelor days are over forever.
I laughed so hard while reading this short story!
Did you enjoy any of these novellas this year? What is on your top ten list?
